Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe that 2017 is here… I love a fresh start and new beginnings. And a new outfit to ring in the New Year seemed like the appropriate and fun thing to do. And why not dress yourself like a glass of bubbly too!?
It all started with the skirt fabric… a shiny champagne…almost gold…colored faux leather. It is super soft and has a teensy bit of stretch. I chose Newlook 6107 because I had made it before and knew the fit. I’m not super thrilled with this fit in the faux leather but it is just another reminder that different fabrics don’t always respond the same way when made in the same pattern.
For the top I found this sequined fabric in the exact color match and even though it was a bit more expensive, I knew that I wouldn’t need to buy much if I used Simplicity 1690. I lined it with a knit and had to pick stitch it down on the inside to keep it from rolling to the outside and showing. The stitch line can be seen in the pics…ugh. It was that or the lining showing….oh well.
It would seem appropriate to share with you a long detailed list of resolutions for the coming year but to be honest the older I get the more I feel it isn’t necessary. Not because there isn’t a list!….. but because for me, it is more about an overall attitude and effort rather than a detailed list of goals.
Living life with an attitude of positiveness, hope and love. Throwing in with it a dose of good old fashioned effort to do and be better. I don’t know what 2017 has in store but I think this will kinda cover it all. 🙂
I want to thank all of you who keep coming back to see what I’m sewing. I am always so surprised that you do!! Blogging is a fun hobby that started out as a way for me to document my sewing and to keep me sewing on a regular basis but it has become so much more! I feel so blessed to share a passion for sewing with such a lovely and fun community both on and offline! Let’s all keep sewing and encouraging others who want to sew as well! The more the merrier!!
I also want to thank my awesome fam for thinking that I am awesome! You guys are so encouraging and supportive that I am brought to tears. Thanks for patiently taking pictures, I don’t think any of you hasn’t endured this torture. Thank you Husband for not saying a single word about the size of my fabric stash or the condition of my sewing room but thank you for the abundance of words you have said…words of encouragement and praise. you da bestest.
2016 was a big year for us as a family and I can see the next year getting even bigger and better! Wahoo!
I love the outfit ! Everyone deserves something fancy in which to ring in the new year, and I hope yours goes spectacularly !
Thank you Regan! Same to you!!
You looked very festive in your gorgeous outfit!
Thanks Faye! I felt very festive too!
Another stunning outfit! I love your photo location, too! Did you wear it somewhere for New Years Eve? I hope you and your family have a wonderful year!
Thanks Gillian! My daughter and I stumbled upon this location and it was perfect. We did go out to a party for New Years, we had a great time dancing and kinda felt like a disco ball in all my sequins! Happy 2017 to you too!!
Lovely outfit. Looks so luxurious! And I agree that an overall positive attitude towards everything wins over a list of goals any day!
Thanks oobop! I felt pretty luxurious and festive in it too!
The outfit is pretty, festive and on trend…a magnificent trifecta! Though I didn’t see any stitching until you mentioned it and I had to go back and look…so it’s not as noticeable as you think! I hope 2017 is wonderful for you sewing and family wise! Happy New Year!
Thank you Carolyn! I’m glad the stitch line isn’t too noticeable. Happy 2017 to you and yours as well!!
I love the whole outfit Margo! Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you Judith!!!!

Happy New Year Margo! You look sparkly and fabulous! Gold suits you!!
Thank you Sue! Happy New Year to you as well!
Margo, you brought in 2017 “in glamorous style!”
Looking forward to seeing all your beautiful sewing this year.
I agree living life with an attitude of positiveness, hope and love is really all we need to be happy and successful.
Awww thanks Almeda! Happy New Year to you and you fam!!
It is an amazing outfit! Was it hard to sew the sequins? I might try it
Thanks Thal! No the sequins weren’t hard to sew, probably because I chose a very simple pattern 🙂
Your outfit looks great Margo! I often find that if I am not satisfied with a make, the best is not to highlight the flaws but since this is a sewing blog and as you said it started off primarily to document your makes, your assessment of the good and not so good is of benefit to you and us fellow sewists……but again, I say looking good!!
I like your attitude on new years, new beginnings. At 57, I feel the same. Thank you for your blog which I enjoy ever so much and one of my favorites!!
Thanks so much Rianna for your sweet words! I’m blushing. All the best in 2017!!!!
Love love love this look, both the skirt and top are fab and you look amazing.
It was fun to wear, thanks Lynsey!!!
Stunner! Festive, fun and classy…can’t get better than that. Happy New Year!
Thanks so much Allie! Same to you!
Fantastic outfit and I love the sequin top especially. Happy New Year and I look forward to seeing what you create in 2017, I love your choices and you are so good at pairing fabric with pattern.
So sweet of you to say Beth! I keep thinking about your the red coat you made recently and how I gorgeous it is! Makes me want to make a red coat!
It looks great! Comfortable and pretty at the same time.
It really was comfortable Chris! thanks!
I love to see what you sew because it always looks great. I appreciate the time you put into your blog!
Thank you Dana! I appreciate your comments!! Happy New Year!
I’ve really enjoyed seeing all your makes in 2016, you have such a fun and elegant style! May 2017 be kind to you and yours x Btw my only new year’s resolution is to clear out my garage, something I really do not want to do! I am sharing it with a few people in the hope it will motivate me to actually do it!
Same to you Philippa! Sometimes it is a good idea to share a goal with someone to keep us accountable to achieve it. And what is it about garages….they collect everything except what they are supposed to…the car!
Your outfit is just perfect! it makes me want to copy it.
Thank you Caroline! Please do copy it!!!
Happy New Year Margo!! You look amazing as always! I love this outfit although I’m always a bit scared of sewing with sequins myself. As much as I enjoy instagram it’s not the same as reading blog posts and I hope everyone keeps blogging their makes! X
Happy 2017 to you as well Kathryn!! The sequins weren’t so bad…I chose a simple pattern which helped greatly 😉 I agree with you about instagram vs blogs….blogging is a bit more about journaling my makes so I’ll keep going 🙂
Gorgeous outfit – I don’t comment often but love seeing what you’re sewing. Happy 2017!
Well thanks Robyn! I checked out your blog…and followed on Bloglovin… you have made yourself a pretty nice wardrobe!
Gorgeous outfit, love the colour and the pieces can work on their own as well, win/win.
Oooo sharon… I didn’t really give much thought to wearing them separately but now I will. Thanks!!
Very festive Margo!:) Bring on the bubbly;) How did you find working with that faux leather? I think I have some of that collection in a pink! You always have such wonderful photos btw! And I agree that its nice to have family who supports our sewing habit, lol!:)
Happy New Year Margo! Such a great outfit to ring in the new year! You are one beautiful lady!
I just saw this – somehow I’d missed it. Beautiful!! Elegant as usual. And so shimmery, love it.
Love this New Year’s outfit too – that skirt especially is so sexy! Thank you for doing such a great job at blogging your makes – it’s always inspiring to see what you’ve made and I relate to what you said about your partner – mine too is supportive and only occasionally squeeks about taking over his man-space with fabric 🙂
