I must really have a sweet tooth this spring! I am loving the white and pink color palettes that are everywhere. I made this dress back in the middle of the winter and couldn’t quite commit to an all white dress. This print was so hard to photograph…so although it looks all white, it actually has grey and mauve in it. I’m not even sure what to call the pattern…it’s kinda like a stone or scaly texture.
Fit and flare dresses have always been a favorite for me, so I’m forever searching for a new one. I thought that I would try McCalls 6953. My pictures make this dress look as though it has a center pleat but it is actually my belt that is making an extra one. Overall, this pattern is fine. It’s one of those makes that may not get much wear. (I say this but watch me make a liar of myself and never take it off!) I guess I am still smitten with Simplicity 2444….its bodice and neckline are just so perfect, why do I think that I need to fix something that’s not broken?
Can we talk about this coat? Who knew that I would wear a pink linen coat so much?! The pattern is Newlook 6162 and when I was browsing around PR, discovered that Goodbye Valentino made a gorgeous ruffle collar version as well. Check hers out!
I underlined it with organza to help with the wrinkles and I think that it does help….to an extent. It’s linen so wrinkles are to be expected. I have learned to get over it.
I decided to treat the seams with hong kong finishes…next time I contemplate doing such a thing…SOMEONE PLEASE STOP ME! I love the look but it was so much work! If you are thinking of doing this…count your seams…why the heck did I choose a pattern with so many seams??
Is anyone else embracing pink this spring? Or is it just a little too sweet for your wardrobe palette?
Oh wow that coat is just amazing, but yes, it does look like a lot of work. it must have taken ages to bind all those seams! I don’t think I ever stop embracing pink whatever the season so I love this outfit. The pattern on the dress looks like stones to me, the colours are lovely and subtle.
Thanks Kathyrn! I haven’t been a fan of pink in the past but I am really liking it lately…maybe it’s an age thing, who knows. I guess the print does look like a stone wall 🙂
I applaud you for exploring the fit and flare beyond Simplicity 2444! At first glance I thought your dress was the much treasured 2444…the neckline is very similar. It’s a good question….why do we try other patterns? It must be something to do with the sheer joy of creating something new!
It’s not a surprise to see Goodbye Valentino and Creating in the Gap looking stunning in the same pattern. I think you have a lot in common aesthetically speaking.
And pink? I’m always all over pink! And YOU look so pretty in pink today! Love your dress and your coat!
Thanks Sue, I love the 2444 so much! It’s fit is so good and it works well in many different fabrics. I love Sarah’s style so I am super flattered by the comparison!!! thanks!
Ever so pretty! This dress should be worn……a lot, and with that coat, it looks stunning.
Aww thanks Rianna! The coat has barely left my body this spring…only time will tell with the dress. 😉
Your pink coat is amazing, I love how it looks and the color is so pretty for spring. I love your dress, too.
Thanks Lori!
I’ve never felt like I look very good in pinks, so I steer clear of all but the darkest shades. And I guess I’m still just enough “tomboy” that I’m not entirely comfortable in it. Ha! You however, look lovely in your dress and jacket, so embrace the pink! 😉
Thanks, I’m going to try! I was a blonde for many years and I hated pink with my blonde hair. But for some reason, I don’t mind it as much with my dark hair.
You look amazing ! Wow x

Thanks Romy!
You are changing my opinion that no female over the age of 12 should wear pink! Lovely dress and the shape of the coat simply fabulous.
Funny that you say that Gail, I have been of that same opinion as well! Thanks!!
You look amazing in pink! the coat is simply fabulous: line, fabric and finish and I love the cut of the dress (especially the bodice)!
Thank you Sasha, the coat is a favorite…the dress…well we will see. I do like the neckline of this bodice as well.
Such a beautiful outfit! I’m loving the soft pink combined with the white too! I think your hong kong seam finishes look beautiful and well worth the effort. I bet they make you happy every time you look at them.
Thanks Heather! I do get a little thrill every time I look at them….it’s true!
