All winter I have been wanting a white leather motorcycle jacket for spring. I saw them everywhere and had an almost feverish need to make one. It’s not my usual style but I thought of so many ways that I could wear it and it’s good to try out a new things. Right? Or is it just good to have a new spring jacket?? I had this Kwik Sew pattern in my stash but alas no white leather, real or faux could be found but while wandering through the drapery fabrics one day, I came across this textured white fabric. ( I seem to think that the drapery department has all the good stuff) Love at first sight! I knew that I had found the perfect fabric for my jacket. I picked up some Bemberg to line it and off I went…
Kwik Sew 3764 |
My Review:
Pattern: Kwik Sew 3764
Fabric used: A textured drapery fabric of unknown content. (at least to me it is unknown) Bemberg for the lining.
Instructions: The instructions were straight forward and it was a fairly easy make other than searching for some time for a lost facing piece…. which I did manage to find…eventually.
Changes I made: I made a variation of the two jackets combined…View A… without the sleeve zippers and shoulder epaulets. My shoulders do not need anymore accentuation. I had to take it in through the sleeves and torso. This jacket is not lined but I drafted a lining for it, making it easier to slide on and off.
Repeat worthy? Yes. Except that I would make it a size…maybe two sizes…smaller. I really need to get a handle on this sizing thing. I almost always decide on a size that is too big.
That one wee snap gave me so much anxiety…some sewists fear the zipper but I fear the snap! It took me a week and a couple of trial runs to work up the courage to tackle that thing!
I share your fear! There's something about a snap….the fear that you can't undo a wrong! But, you certainly didn't have a problem here. Your jacket is da bomb…hahaha! Very beautifully sewn, and though it may not be your go-to style, it really does suit you to a T! I'm the same about the drapery/upholstery section. You really do find some of the best fabrics there. I just bought some outdoor fabric that I've been oogling for OVER a year! Hope to sew it up this month…just in time to not be able to wear it due to warm weather.
Your jacket is perfect for spring – so clean and fresh! I have the same problem with envelope patterns. I select my size, but I think they build in way too much ease. You have reminded me to tissue fit and measure the pattern pieces more, as I'm a bit too impatient to make muslins, as a general rule.
This is a gorgeous jacket. I like the extra ease that the bigger size affords. It looks like it fits well instead of tightly, which is trendy, but can be less than perfectly flattering sometimes.
Ooooh, I love it too! So very perfect for spring! I agree with Tia Dia – I like this slightly looser fit 🙂
Wonderful work! So glad you finally got the jacket of your dreams – you look beautiful in it! x
You just amaze me, Margo!! Lovely!!!
Wow that fabric is gorgeous!! I love a good biker jacket – I used to have a shimmery white biker jacket I loved, one day I should try & sew a replacement!
This is a great biker jacket! I love it in white and I understand how you feel about snaps…I actually feel the same way about them, about zippers and button holes!
The insides are really professional. Good job!!
This is so fancy, Margo! Even if it feels a bit big, it looks super flattering. Does Kwik Sew show finished sizes? Those are the only measurements I can seem to trust, although my broad shoulders can require a larger size than my bust for patterns like coats and tops with set-in sleeves!
Thanks Sue! I really do like it and think that I can work it into my wardrobe quite nicely.
Thanks Philippa! It's clean for now…I pre-washed it thankfully so it can be thrown into the wash as needed which will likely be quite often! Yes, I too should make more muslins…..
Thanks! I do like the fit now. You make a good point about something being too tight and unflattering.
Thanks Gail! I do like the looser fit, it was just soooo big when I started. I can be an impatient sewer!
Thank you Nessa! Jacket of my dreams may have been a Michael Kors white leather moto but I am quite pleased with my version. 🙂
Awwww…Tanya you are so sweet! I would love to have your talent for home decor!
Thanks Kathryn! I would definitely recommend this pattern if you should decide to make one. We could be biker chick twinsies!
Thanks Merche! I finally remembered to take some pictures of this insides….something I don't ever think to do.
Thanks Morgan! You know…there are no finished sizes to be found on the pattern. I fell between two sizes so I naturally went with the larger size. It was even too big for my wider shoulders. I had to make some adjustments but it was worth it in the end. I know i should be making muslins but…. I'm lazy about that I guess.
Margo, what a gorgeous jacket! It is so classy! I love the fabric and the style and I think the fit is perfect. You could wear this in different seasons with various tops and colors underneath.
You certainly have a great eye for matching patterns and fabric and your sewing skills are first class. Well done.

This jacket is fantastic!! I love it!! (And I say that as someone who likes very few motorcycle jackets.) You found a great fabric and did a beautiful job.
That is an awesome fabric, much better for a moto jacket then a set of drapes. Jacket looks fab!
OMG I love this! I was just oogling over a suede motorcycle jacket online yesterday. I couldn't buy it since I'm on the no buy for RTW this year so it's nice to know there is a pattern for it in case I ever get the itch to make my own.
It is just beautiful Margot – inside and out! You have been making some amazing stuff lately!
This is an absolutely stunning little jacket; it suits you beautifully and the textured fabric looks really interesting. I just love it 🙂 And can I say; you've looked absolutely gorgeous each and every day of me-made May too. Your wardrobe is classically beautiful, as are you.
I am just catching up on some blog reading and saw this- wow!! Amazing jacket, I love it so much!! I really like the textured fabric, and how nice that you can throw it in the wash!
