Here I am back with another dress from my trip… gosh… I miss that warm weather… and the food… the beach…the laughs….sigh…moving on.
There are times when a dress comes together surprising well. This dress is one of those times….even though it was during a crazy flurry of sewing before I left for my vacation. Nothing like a little pressure to pull things together!
I spotted a similar dress in an ad on a blog somewhere and loved the color scheme. Coral, white and tan…so fresh and slightly unexpected. So when I spotted this lovely crepe in those same colors..I knew exactly what dress I wanted to make. Β I’ve had M7082 in my pattern stash since is came out and it was perfect. It took a bit of figuring out and honestly…some guessing as to how much fabric I would need in each color but it worked out in the end with no extra trips to the fabric store.
I had originally planned to make the back bodice in the coral color as well but changed my mind to the white during the process…and I’m so happy that I did. I think that it would have been too busy and chopped up. A little editing can make a huge difference between a good design and a bad one. Β I just wish that I had noticed that my zip is showing on the tan waistband…ugh.
I lined it with a rayon Bemberg which is always lovely but I found this dress and its polyester crepe to be a bit warm for my trip. Β The perils of polyester. I will wear it at home though… not exactly the tropics here in Canada.
If it wasn’t for my trip south to kick start my spring/summer sewing, I would never have had the desire to sew summer dresses and swimsuits…now if only the weather would catch up.
Are your spring/summer sewing plans in full swing now or is your climate wreaking havoc on your sewjo?
Hi Margo, love your beautiful dress. White, coral and tan are really great together. Enjoy your beautiful pictures as well π
Thank you Hana!
Another gorgeous make Margo! My resolve to only sew from my stash is slipping….this white/coral/tan combo makes my heart sing! Having just sewn a colourblocked dress, I totally understand the need to play around with the colours; how much of which one and where they go. You nailed your design for sure!! {PS stop thinking about that teeny bit of white zipper; none of us are!}
Lots of spring sewing in the works here. Spring and summer are my favourite me-made seasons!
A Colourful Canvas: My Colourblocked Shift Dress
I loved your color blocked dress! It’s fun to try new combinations and a pattern like this one is so helpful in doing so. I love sewing for spring and summer the most as well!! Thanks Sue!
What a lovely dress! Coral and shades of neutrals is my spring/summer wardrobe plan color scheme… I hope you don’t mind if I totally steal this idea and make a “Creating in the Gap” knockoff someday π
Oh yes! Make yourself this dress! I love this color scheme so much that I will have to be careful that I don’t over do it in my wardrobe. π
Love this! Fresh, fun and love the colours. Great job.
Thank you Manju!
Perfection! I love the color combo and placement on the dress. You look lovely!
Thanks Amanda, I played with the color placement a bit…glad you like it!
Your dress is stunning and I love the colors you selected. Fabulous as always.
A big thanks, Lori! It feels good to be sewing for warmer weather…no if only I could wear it.
The dress is absolutely lovely and screams spring/summer and great vacation dress! I’d forgotten about that pattern so thanks for reminding me. I have some ponte scraps that would make a fabulous version for my daughter! We’re finally stringing together about 10 days of warm weather and sunshine, so I think spring has finally arrived in the tri-state area and I’m so thrilled. So yes, my thoughts have fully turned to spring sewing!
Oh you’re right Carolyn! This would be a great pattern to use up those scraps that we all have. Yay! for spring!
Margo! Your pictures are so lovely!!! Love the colors and the style and fit are perfect!. You will wear this dress a lot when the warmer weather returns, and it will!. Beautiful job, as always!!! π
Thanks so much Almeda! I can’t wait for the warm months too.
I love the colors you chose for this dress, it’s just perfect! I didn’t pay much attention to this pattern at first, but now I’ve added it to my shopping list.
I have had this pattern in my stash since it came out and am only now making it…some patterns are like that for me. I know that its design is one I should have but don’t know what I will do with it until much later. Thanks Marrie!
What a beautiful dress. Love the cheerful summery colors and it fits you quite nicely.
Thank you Tomasa! It’s fun to play with cheery colors, isn’t it?
What a beautiful spring dress! I love that color combination, really fresh and modern.
Thank you Rebecca! I love that you describe it as modern!
What a gorgeous dress Margo!
Glad you like it Faye!! Thanks.
Really, really nice job. Your skills are amazing & the color choices are so pretty .
So nice of you to say, Mary Ellen!
It’s a gorgeous dress, and as always elegant and classy. Jealous of your spring sewing whilst I’m planning my winter wardrobe.
Right!! Sometimes I forget that while some of us prepare for summer..others are planning winter wardrobes. It keeps things always so interesting though! Thanks Angela.
You look very stylish in your dress! I’m still stuck in winter sewing and I have two more pieces that I would like to sew before I make the switch. I just realised that I have no specific plans for my summer sewing either!
Thank you Nilla. It can be hard to make future seasonal plans when we are currently so in the midst of another!
fabulous dress and perfect for spring & summer. I’ve just started cutting out a dress for summer, even though here its still cool – spring has sprung.
Yay for spring! Thanks poppy!
Beautiful dress Margo and beautiful Margo – just gorgeous! This trio of colours is exquisite.
You are so sweet Rianna. Thank you!!
I really love the soft colour combination here. It sings summer, but not too loudly. Well done!
Thank you Gail. I love your description.
What a lovely lovely dress. the perfect spring color palette.
Thank you Sasha! I just need to find the perfect layering piece for the still cool days.
BEAUTIFUL! i love how the tan plays with the brain, it almost looks like a two piece set at first!
Thanks Marci! I felt that made it looked a little “tennis court chic”…lol. Glad you like it!
When I saw the first photo, I thought the same thing!
wow…FABULOUS DRESS INDEED!
Thank you Laura!!!
This is lovely!
Thanks Roslyn, so nice of you to say!
I love this color combination! This dress has such a flattering shape. I love your sandals, can you tell me where they’re from?
Thanks Lisette! My sandals are from Old Navy and they are soooo comfortable. I have a rule about shoes and travel….two pairs only. I wore these and a pair of flat leather flip flops.
That was the perfect pattern for that fabric. The dress is very elegant and looks lovely on you.
Thank you Andrea!
Damn, you’re so talented. I’m so inspired ! Thank you for the lovely post x
Wow, thanks so much Romy!
This is a gorgeous dress Margo! I love these colours together and the plain white bodice back works perfectly with the stripes. I haven’t started my spring/summer sewing plans yet though I’ve just finished up the last of my winter plan makes (well the last I’m going to work on till next winter) so now comes the fun part of planning for the spring, and hoping the weather comes too! I hope you get some good spring weather soon too.
Thanks Kathryn! Our sewing plans are never ending are they? We are always thinking about the next make…or the next twenty makes!
This is gorgeous!! I love the colour blocking!! So classy Margo!
Thanks Heather, my daughter likes it too….that means I may not wear it much but it’s nice that I can still make things that appeal to the younger crowd! π
What a beautiful dress Margo! I love how you arranged the stripes π
Thanks Carolyn, it was fun playing around with different options.
